Grade 2 Listed Belbroughton Hall

Belbroughton Church Hall is an absolute gem of a ceremony venue.  Whether you are looking for space to hold a wedding, vow renewal, naming or other ceremony, Belbroughton Church Hall has it all.  Standing at the heart of this pretty Worcestershire village, the Hall was built 500 years ago as a tithe barn,  meaning it was where the parish would store the ‘tithe’ (one tenth of agricultural produce) that had to be paid to the church.  When the 1836 Tithe Act brought this practice to an end, all across the country these handsome buildings became redundant resulting in them being either demolished or left to fall into ruin.  Luckily however, in Belbroughton’s case the Hall was saved from such a fate by the forward-thinking decision of the church to gift the Hall to the village.  In 1915, after extensive restoration, it was reopened as a venue to be used for the benefit of the village and has been enjoyed as such ever since.

The Perfect Place to Say 'I do'

Run, from that day to this, by a team of volunteers, this Grade 2 listed building is

available for hire to those from within the village and beyond.  From the moment you step inside, the sense of history is tangible yet the facilities are modern and up to date.  There is a fully equipped caterers' kitchen off the back of the hall and an internal bar at the opposite end.   The venue comfortably holds 80 for a ceremony/sit-down meal, and can accommodate up to 150 for evening guests.  Pricing is exceptionally reasonable and access is generous (a weekend wedding booking allows access from Friday noon until Sunday 2pm).  As the Hall is run by volunteers, if you need to visit beforehand to measure up or make plans, this can be easily arranged.  That said, there’s not much decoration required!  The striking beams and rustic walls already look great - a few fairy lights and perhaps a length or two of tulle and you have something magical! You can view suggested suppliers here but are welcome to source your own if you prefer.

Happily Ever After.

If it’s a wedding you’re after, there are several options for your ceremony.  Holy Trinity Church is literally across the road and, of course, shares a long history with the Hall.  In order to marry there, a couple needs to have a ‘Qualifying Connection’ with the church - for example, live or have parents who live in the village, have been baptised at the church etc.  Alternatively, a couple can acquire a Qualifying Connection by regularly attending Holy Trinity for at least six months prior to the wedding. (Further details available from the Church Office  01562 730777).  For those wanting a civil ceremony, the nearest Registry Offices are Stourbridge (01384 815373) or Bromsgrove (01905 768181) although, of course, your legal ceremony does not have to be at the local Registry Office.

As an Independent Celebrant, I’m biased (!) but for those wanting a truly personalised ceremony, built around them as a couple and their unique story, a celebrant-led wedding is ideal. Belbroughton Church Hall lends itself perfectly to such an occasion, offering couples the chance to embark on their future in a building rooted in history and community.  For more details on what a celebrant-led wedding looks like please see my blog.
