Spotlight on Mythe Barn

Mythe Barn in Sheepy Magna is one of Leicestershire’s premiere wedding venues and, on visiting, it is obvious to see why.  Despite visiting on a drizzly day in October, I was immediately struck by the stunning setting of the barns.  The grounds are immaculate and look out over rolling hills, meadows and the River Sence.  I received the warmest of welcomes and was treated to a tour of this spectacular venue.  Mythe Barn is owned by Joanna and Joe Garland and it is clear they and their team have thought of everything.

The accommodation is magnificent, from the stunning oak beamed ceremony room to the dedicated bridal preparation room, the choice of outdoor or indoor ceremony and catering spaces, you can be sure to make your day perfect for you.  If you choose Mythe Barn as your venue, you can be confident that all your and your guests needs will be catered for.

From your first visit you will be looked after by one of the dedicated events’ team who will discuss all your choices with you and support you throughout your planning journey and on the day itself.  The options are clear and straightforward and the team pride themselves on being inclusive - there are no hidden unexpected costs. Catering for up to 150 guests with space for a further 50 in the evening, you will have exclusive use of the premises on your wedding day from midday, meaning you and your guests can relax and enjoy the occasion exactly as you wish.

Bridal parties have a dedicated hair and make-up room, from where they are just a few steps from the stylish stairway taking them down to the ceremony room and there is a Grooms’ room too - a perfect space to calm the nerves! There is a sumptuous honeymoon suite to enjoy which is the epitome of luxury and the stables in the courtyard can be configured in a variety of ways to accommodate other key members of the wedding party.  The catering choices range from formal to more casual dining styles and the on-site catering team offers a range of options from canapes beforehand, a range of wedding breakfasts to suit personal taste and budgets to evening street food or wood fired pizza. Choice is central to everything at Mythe Barn - whilst there is no need for further decoration of the already glorious accommodation, you are free to personalise the spaces as you wish. Weddings can take place on any day of the week and mid-week packages are available.

If you want to marry at Mythe Barn, there are several options to choose from.  You can have a Christian service at one of the local churches - you do not need to live in the parish but will usually need to attend the church regularly for at least six months prior to your wedding. If you prefer a non-religious service, you can book a Leicestershire Registrar to attend and have a civil ceremony in either the magnificent Oak Barn or outdoors under the licensed gazebo.  If you are after a personalised ceremony, written exclusively for you as a couple and blending whatever religious, spiritual or other elements you choose, you might like to consider a celebrant-led wedding.  Whilst a registrar will offer you three options for the wording of your ceremony and you will not be allowed to include any religious music (I heard recently of a couple being prohibited from using Robbie Williams’ Angels!) or readings, a celebrant will work with you to create exactly the ceremony that reflects you as a couple.  It can be whatever length and sentiment you choose and can be conducted in any place that feels right; inside or out.  As an independent celebrant I am biased (!) but am convinced that a celebrant can make sure your wedding is exactly what you want it to be.  That said it is important to find the right celebrant (see my blog) and to note that a celebrant-led wedding is not a legal marriage and the legalities need to be completed separately. (More information on what a celebrant-led wedding involves here.)
